In today's digital world, the ubiquitous presence of technology leads to both significant achievements and challenges for human memory. The ease with which we can store and use digital information – from photos and videos to notes and data – has revolutionized the way we record and access our experiences. However, this reliance on technology raises concerns about its potential negative impact on our cognitive abilities, especially memory function. (Shanmugasundaram & Tamilarasu, 2023)
Researchers are examining the complex relationship between technology, digital dependence, and memory, highlighting both the benefits and drawbacks of this dynamic process. One of the main concerns is the influence of technologies such as smartphones and wearable devices on short-term memory or the tendency to forget information that is easily accessible through digital means. (Schacter, 2021) As people's dependence on these devices for storing and retrieving information increases, there is growing concern that their own innate memory skills may weaken, leading to a reduced ability to remember important details without technological assistance.
Interestingly, studies on the impact of digital technology on memory show a more complex picture. Although some research documents reduced memory in specific tasks where people rely on technology, there is limited evidence of long-term cognitive impairment. In fact, some studies suggest that the use of digital tools, such as capturing information through photos and videos, can improve certain aspects of memory, such as the ability to remember visual details. (Dingler et al., 2016)

The key lies in using digital technology as a means for cognitive enhancement, enriching our perceptions and seeking new experiences, rather than letting it become a source of cognitive stress. You can further support yourself with appropriate supplements such as Focus 7, which is specifically designed for the brain's cognitive function, and in combination with the described guidelines, one can achieve a good balance between the technological world and the health of their memory. This will allow us to harness the power of technology for cognitive well-being and development in our increasingly digitized world.
One of the main concerns associated with the impact of technology on memory is the phenomenon of "absent-mindedness." (Wilmer et al., 2017) Research shows strong evidence that media multitasking, which is common in the digital age, is linked to poorer memory performance on tasks due to a lack of attention. This suggests that chronic media multitasking can lead to broader memory problems, as people struggle to sustain attention and remember information amidst constant distractions from digital devices.
Yet, there is also evidence that technology can reduce certain types of errors associated with absent-mindedness. For example, using digital reminders and task-tracking apps can help prevent forgetting and improve prospective memory, which is the ability to remember to perform an action in the future.

Beyond the impact on short-term memory and absent-mindedness, the influence of digital technology on memory also includes issues related to misattribution and suggestibility. There is clear evidence that manipulated or misleading photos can lead to the formation of false memories about personal events, and the spread of "fake news" is linked to increased susceptibility to misinformation. To avoid the effect of absent-mindedness, one can rely on supplements like Focus 7, which aim to improve overall brain function and action, providing it with focus and proper concentration in everyday life. (Wilmer et al., 2017)
To cope with these challenges, it is important to develop strategies to protect and enhance human memory in conditions of digital dependence. One of the key approaches is encouraging balanced and mindful technology use, where digital tools are used as cognitive aids rather than as the primary source for storing and retrieving information.
Incorporating practices such as regular digital breaks, limiting media multitasking, and actively engaging in activities that improve memory, such as mnemonic techniques and physical exercise, can help people maintain and strengthen their cognitive abilities.
